Abstract

According to the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks, "A method for accelerated video decoding comprising the steps of : receiving an encoded video bit stream by a video decoding system, the video bit stream comprising intra-coded frame data and inter-coded frame data; decoding by a central processing unit, the intra-coded frame data; transferring the intra-coded frame data to a graphics processing unit buffering by graphics processing unit,a copy of the intra-coded frame data to be used as reference frame data for the inter-coded frame data; transmitting by the graphics processing unit,the intra-coded frame data to a display device to be displayed; decoding by the central processing unit, the inter-coded frame data; transferring the inter-coded frame data to the graphics processing unit; and applying by the graphics processing unit a motion vector associated with the inter-coded frame data to the reference frame data to generate motion-compensated reference frame data; and reconstructing by the graphics processing unit image data associated with the inter-coded frame data by adding the inter-coded frame data to the motion-compensated reference frame data."
