The Global Health Library (GHL) was unveiled in September of 2005 by the World Health Organization (WHO). The goal of the GHL is to facilitate the sharing of medical and public health information internationally, particularly in and with the developing world. The Global Health Library website has a clean layout, with WHO Libraries and Networks listed on the left and the Virtual Health Library Newsletter and health related events listed on the right. The centre of the screen contains the search interface for the literature database, below which are links to the GHL collaborative space (some of the content in this area is available through log-in only) and information about the GHL.
The GHL database contains articles on medical and public health topics from many countries. Data is pulled from a variety of resources, Medline being the largest. Other indexes included are the regional indexes: African Index Medicus (AIM), Latin American and Caribbean Health Science Literature (LILACS), Index Medicus for South-East Asia Region (IMSEAR), Index Medicus for the Eastern Mediterranean Region (IMEMR) and Western Pacific Region Index Medicus (WPRIM) as well as the Global Indexes: the aforementioned Medline, World Health Organization Library and Information Networks for Knowledge (WHOLIS) and Science Electronic Library Online (SciELO).
The search mechanism for the Global Health Library is very simple. You may search by: indexes, title, author and subject. Indexes is the default option and appears to allow...
