After a two-year absence, the Downtown Film Festival Los Angeles is back, kicking things off Friday with the L.A. premiere of the drama "The Diary of Preston Plummer" at the Downtown Independent Theatre.
Directed by Sean Ackerman, the indie production stars Robert Loggia and Rumer Willis, the oldest daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis.
The festival, which began in 2008, "is special in a couple of ways," said co-director Greg Ptacek. "We do embrace the independent cinema ethos. We are a showcase for emerging talent in the film capital of the world. What makes it particularly interesting is that we embrace the whole downtown atmosphere. It's not that we are showing a film and having a party in a parking lot [in downtown]....
