JORDAN DALRYMPLE Volleyball
"Volleyball did not change the person I was," says Dalrymple, 18, "it has made me the person I am. I know how lucky I am and I could not be any more grateful for all the opportunities I have been given."
He played for the England Cadet Boys volleyball team between 2008-10, and is now in the England Under 19 set-up.
Being a Lloyds TSB Local Hero, he says, has been an enormous help: "I've had the chance to meet some very interesting, inspiring and influential people including Olympians such as Jonathan Edwards, Leon Taylor, Sally Gunnell, Ellie Simmonds and Steve Backley."
MARK HAWKINS Handball
Hawkins, 26, from Horsham, West Sussex, is a Torchbearer and Lloyds TSB Local Hero. Hawkins plays in the N1 League in Iceland, like most of GB's handball athletes, as there is no competitive scene in the UK.
