A mosque befitting of the Ottoman Empire's legendary architect Mimar Sinan, whose major works are located on the European side of the metropolis, was opened by Prime Minister Erdogan yesterday in Atasehir, in Istanbul's Asian district.
Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan participated in the opening of the Mimar Sinan Mosque, named after the legendary Ottoman architect, for the first Friday prayer for Ramadan. At the mosque's opening, Erdogan was accompanied by President of Gabon Ali Bongo Ondimba and Iraq's National Parliament Speaker Osama Nujaifi. Director of Department of Religious Affairs Dr Mehmet Gormez performed the first-ever prayer ceremony held in the 10,000 person capacity Mimar Sinan Mosque.
