Abstract
Admission arterial blood gas (ABG) on 60% fractional inspiratory oxygen concentration (Fio2) revealed pH, 7.21; Pao2, 50 mm Hg; Paco2, 30 mm Hg, HCO3- (bicarbonate), 15.2; base excess (BE), 11.4; and serum lactate, 36 mg/dL. Differentiating features between DHF/DSS from classic dengue include increased vascular permeability (plasma leakage syndrome), marked thrombocytopenia (<100,000 per liter) associated with or without bleeding, hepatomegaly, and/or abnormal liver function [4,5].
