Abstract
The UK has led the world with legal actions to force internet service providers (ISPs) to block websites accused of infringing copyright, first against Newzbin and now against The Pirate Bay. The Netherlands, too, has blocked Pirate Bay, though its decisions are being appealed by a new group of ISPs. The United States does allow such blocking of sites under the Digital Milennium Copyright Act, but there has been only one case - and that was two years ago. Meanwhile Australia's spate of copyright cases has made legislative reform likely, and legislation in Spain has just been implemented to make blocking easier.
