Abstract
Globalization has blurred the cultural boundaries and brought languages in afar closer contact than ever before. English holds a unique position in the context of globalization: it has penetrated in different cultures of the world, and has affected their language/s. However, it is not a one-way process and in the course of affecting these languages it has also been affected by other langages. This phenomenon of Anglicization can be noticed in Pakistan as well and is clearly reflected in the media. In this context the present paper studies Anglicization of Urdu in the country. Data for the research is taken from the English language daily-The News; and data related to only four categories i.e. Religion, Politics, Education, and Law and order is analyzed to study various techniques and processes of Anglicization such as loan words, hybrids and coinage. The study sheds light on the reasons of Anglicization of Urdu in English newspapers, explores the frequency of Anglicization in various domains/devised categories, and examines the techniques and processes of Anglicization used in newspapers.

Introduction
The term Anglicization is derived from "Anglo-ism" (Anglo-England, ismthing), and refers to the process of making something English - be it a person, language or a culture. Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary (2009) defines Anglicization as "1: to make English in quality or characteristics; 2: to adapt (a foreign word, name, or phrase) to English usage: as (a) to alter to a characteristic English form, sound or spelling (b) to convert (a name) to its English equivalent< anglicize Juan as John>". In the same way Free Online Dictionary (2009) defines Anglicization as "to make English in form, idiom, and style or character-v.tr. " and "to become English in form or character- v.intr."
From the linguistic perspective, it refers to the phenomenon of importing words of other local or national languages to English. A word can be directly incorporated in English such as "karo-kari" or it is imported in a modified form for example the word "masjid" has been imported into English language in the modified form "mosque".
