PRESIDENT Michael Sata joined hundreds of mourners in spirit when he sent a word of condolences through the Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) president, Maiko Zulu, to the bereaved family of Distro Kuomboka's band leader, Chali Musenge who died in Ndola last Friday.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people including musicians,friends and fans of Distro Kuomboka from many walks of life on Monday converged at Lowenthal Theatre where Musenge's body was taken for an artistic farewell.
Musenge,52, died last Friday after an illness. His death shocked the members of the band because it was sudden and unexpected as they were with him the previous night and he did not appear like someone who was so sick and could die in a manner that he did.
He collapsed on a minibus on his way to Ndola Central Hospital for a review. He is survived by a wife Christine, son, Bupe and daughter, Ethel.
Born on September 27, 1960 in Kabwe, Musenge was one of the founding members of Distro Kuomboka which started performing way back in 1977 and has lived on till now - making it the longest surviving live performing bands in the country.
The band started in Kabwe with six members namely Darlington Chisanga(late), Musenge, Andy Matafu, Obby Mumba, Chester Kombe and Simon Zimba.
Musenge did his primary education at Musofu Mission School in Masaiti District.When he qualified to Form One, he moved to Kabwe where he did his secondary education at Kalonga Secondary School where he together with Matafu, completed Form Five.
