Stainless surcharge system still a problem, consumers say

The stainless steel surcharge system is still causing problems for consumers due to the resulting price fluctuations.

"The surcharge is one of the most detrimental facts of our business," David Cornelius, president of Munhall, Pennsylvania based stainless welded pipe and tube maker Marcegaglia USA, said at AMM's 26th annual Stainless and Its Alloys Conference in Chicago on Tuesday, September 25.

"Sometimes as efficient as we are in the plant, we still end up losing on the surcharge."
