In his 26 years at the helm, CEO Dilip Vellodi has transformed a startup with 12 employees into a global leader in the business process outsourcing industry.
Sutherland Global Services Inc. now has 30,000 employees in 10 countries, including more than 2,600 in the Rochester area. In 2010, the company ranked No. 1 on Inc. magazine's list of top job creators; the following year, it was second, having added some 12,500 employees from 2007 to 2011. Inc. reported Sutherland's 2010 revenues at $467 million.
This year, Sutherland was named to the Global Outsourcing 100 list for the fifth straight year. The list, compiled by the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals, highlights the top companies that offer outsourcing services.
Before starting Sutherland, Vellodi worked at Xerox Corp. in operations, strategic planning and market development.
Vellodi is a recipient of Rochester Institute of Technology's Herbert W. Vanden Brul Entrepreneurial Award and the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.
