Appleton native Cory Chisel might make his home in Nashville these days, but his soulful roots-rock is still informed by his experiences growing up in Wisconsin. In an interview earlier this year, he talked about his home state's influence on his music, saying, "There's just something about the landscape and maybe the time I allow myself in Wisconsin to be introspective." The singer is undoubtedly at his introspective best on his latest album, "Old Believers," a more reserved, melancholy effort written and recorded in the wake of a painful divorce. Working with producer Brendan Benson, Chisel married these deeply personal confessions to a rich musical backdrop heavily steeped in soul ("I've Been Accused") and folk ("Never Meant to Love You").
