This book bears much the same relationship to E. Nesbit's 'Psammead' stories as a Beatles Tribute Band bears to its inspirers. Rosalind, a bookish pre-teen and E. Nesbit reader, is staying with her father and brother and step-family. They go out for a picnic and the children unearth the Psammead in a forest sandpit.
