Abstract

For nearly 500 years, Thomas More's Utopia has discouraged those who wanted to decipher the enigmatic terms contributing to its mystery, its charm and its fame. This study intends to show how both scientific and classic literary techniques may throw a new light on some Utopian terms. The present research only bears on the play on words concerning the four sister islands, Achoria, Macaria, Alaopolitia and Nephelogetia, and the Graeco-Latin final pseudo-aporia (optarim-sperarim). An essential meaning of the word "Utopia" will finally be uncovered. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
