ISSUE: In Alberta, new standards of pharmacist practice allow pharmacists to administer vaccines and drugs by injection. Prior to receiving authorization to administer drugs by injection, pharmacists must complete a continuing education (CE) program approved by the Alberta College of Pharmacists (ACP) Council. Approved programs must include both theoretical knowledge and practical skills training. CE programs were designed to be completed postlicensure, thus excluding undergraduate pharmacy students.
