I've been thinking about writing this piece for months. I'm not happy with myself for putting it off. When you know you'll get blasted for doing something that's right, not everyone rushes immediately to do the right thing. I'm not proud for hesitating.
I should have thrown my public support - for whatever it's worth - to Pamela Geller a long time ago. President of the American Freedom Defense Initiative and publisher of the widely read blog Atlas Shrugs, Geller is one of the most courageous Jewish women of our time. That's because, in a time of cowardice, she says the plain truth about things that so many want so much not to hear that they have made the plain truth a taboo. Like a good Jew, Pamela breaks icons. And for that she gets ostracized, and cursed, and threatened with bodily harm and worse.
Pamela Geller thinks Radical Islam is a threat to Western civilization and that our politically correct leaders who insist on being willfully blind are endangering us all. Having this view attracts detractors. Expressing it daily, with no holds barred, with gory photos of the victims of jihad and outrageous details of how our leaders betray us, has earned Pamela a baying herd of defamers.
The PC hounds were already barking at Pamela's Atlas Shrugs website when she took up the cause of Muslim women who were slain by their own family members for "dishonoring" them. Geller drove the point home with specific, heart-rending cases. She provided international publicity, for example, to the tragic tale of 19year-old Aqsa Parvez, who in 2007 was strangled by her...
