Italian foil producer, Comital has upgraded a 4-high mill and included a control system based on an ABB Stressometer roll. The result is a mill with outstanding product quality.
In 1998, Comital SpA at Volpiano near Turin, Italy renovated a FataHunter four-high rolling mill for aluminium foil and equipped it with a strip flatness measuring and control system based on ABB's Stressometer measuring roll for foil applications. The project was a big success to which the strip flatness control system contributed significantly.
Now, one of the major production facilities in the world for ultrathin, high-quality, aluminium foil for the packaging and electronics industries can be found in north-western Italy.
Comital was founded in 1958 for the purpose of producing aluminium foils and other foil-based products. Since then the company has expanded and modernised its production facilities and commercial offices in Italy, Volpiano, Spinetta Marengo, Nembro, Frosinone and several other countries in the world continually.
Today, Comital is the undisputed leader in its field in Italy and a major supplier throughout the rest of the world. The company employs approximately 600 people and turns over in the region of US $220M annually.
In 1996, the company became part of the Italian SAIAG Group which operates in the rubber and aluminium fields. The group has a workforce of approximately 2500 people and a consolidated turnover of US $500M.
