B.C.'s new transportation and infrastructure minister promises "more of the same," from a Liberal government intent on upgrading infrastructure and kickstarting construction of facilities related to resource development.
"The most important message that comes with the re-election of our government is that there will be four more years of building this province," said Todd Stone.
"Investing in transportation and infrastructure are key economic drivers for growth and jobs in B.C."
Stone, 41, a rookie MLA for Kamloops-South Thompson, is the founder of Kamloops software company iCompass.
He is taking over the transportation ministry from Surrey's Mary Polak, who has become the Minister of Environment, Stone notes that transportation infrastructure, particularly road and rail, is crucial to his home town. "I come from Kamloops, a transportation hub. Transportation is a big part of the Kamloops environment," he said.
As with all members of Christy Clark's new cabinet, Stone was given a mandate letter that sets out the priorities for his ministry.
Several projects were at the top of his list.
First, was completion of the South Fraser Perimeter Road by the end of 2013.
