Abstract

The purpose of this project was to write a grant to obtain funding for a learning center for high school students who experience a wide variety of personal, familial, and/or schooling challenges. The goals of the proposed project are to: (a) have a safe place for students to receive support and resources; (b) have a place to allow them to discuss their current struggles; (c) reduce the number of students who drop out of high school; and (d) to increase the school staff awareness as to why students' attendance are poor and/or their reasoning for dropping out. The host agency for this project will be a high school located in Orange County, California. After consideration of several funding sources, the Orange County Community Foundation was chosen due to their specific interest in education, community and the scholarships offered for students to attend college. The actual submission and/or funding of this grant, was not a requirement for the successful completion of the project.
