Chrysler Group has minted a new African-American dealer under a minority development program launched two years ago.
The automaker partnered with Al Heggs, 45, who was among the first graduates of the 18-month training program.
Chrysler put up 90 percent of the stake for Heggs on his purchase in June of Superstition Springs Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge-Ram in Mesa, Ariz. Heggs had been general manager of Spring Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge-Ram in Houston. The automaker said a deal with a second graduate of the program is in its final stages.
Dealer training
Heggs, a former player in the National Basketball Association, is one of five minority dealer candidates to graduate from Chrysler's program. Under the program, existing dealers nominate promising minority general managers for extensive training in how to own and operate dealerships.
