TEENAGE rugby player Alisha Butchers has beaten some of the country's best young sports stars to win gold in an elite competition.
The 16-year-old was among 1,600 of the nation's best sporting talents who competed in the Sainsbury's 2013 School Games in Sheffield.
The multi-sports event sees thousands of up-and-coming young sports talents competing across 12 disciplines in venues across Sheffield.
Alisha, who previously lived in Bryn Roath in Llanelli, took part in the event as part of the Wales Dragons A Team. The teenager and fellow players including Rhian McCulloch took on teams from Scotland, Ireland, and four English team before claiming victory.
Alisha said: I was really pleased, at first we weren't expecting it at all but as the competition went on we could tell we were doing well.
Her mum Anna said: She is over the moon.
This is the first time she has represented Wales. I am very proud of her. Alisha seemed destined for sporting success as she has been playing since she was just six years old.
After starting her school life at Halfway Primary School in Llanelli Alisha went on to play in Bynea RFC, the Llanelli Schoolboys, and is currently playing for the Scarlets under 18s team and the Carmarthen Quins RFC.
Despite her sporting success the busy teenager is also sitting her A Levels in PE, Media Studies, and Public Services.
But there's no rest for Alisha who is planning to get back on the field as soon as possible. She added: I will be starting training with the Scarlets and Quins in the next few weeks. So I won't be resting for long.
