Abstract

[...]the civil war had contributed to transforming the role of the English woman. [...]Ulama views his captor's victories as Heaven's recompense to this man for his virtues. [...]he is not a lascivious villain, but a protagonist who maintains the audience's admiration as well as sympathy throughout most of the play. [...]to reward him for his services and loyalty, Solyman offers Ibrahim the opportunity to "choose [him]self a throne" (5, 74) from among his kingdoms, showing that he believes in the integration of the two religions (Islam and Christianity) in one state.
