Minister of Civil Aviation, Shri Ajit Singh informed the Rajya Sabha today that Air India, as part of its Turn Around Plan (TAP), had embarked upon implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) for Air India and its subsidiary companies, for which System Application Programme (SAP) was opted for and IBM selected as Implementation Partner. SAP was the worldwide leader in such ERP application and IBM had the experience of SAP implementation in several airlines, globally, and in several Indian companies. Moreover, during this time, Air India was pursuing to join `Star Alliance` network in which a large number of airlines` partners were on SAP platform. Air India signed a formal contract/ agreement with SAP and IBM on 06.01.2011. The total cost including software, hardware and maintenance for five years and tax was Rs. 255 crores. Air India has informed that such extent of ERP application and its implementation cannot be achieved at indicated cost of Rs. 2 to 5 crores.
