[Image omitted] - (http://www.fiercehealthit.com/story/jocelyn-samuels-head-hhs-office-civil-rights/2014-07-01) Jocelyn Samuels has been named the next director of the Office for Civil Rights, the unit within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that enforces HIPAA compliance, an OCR spokeswoman confirmed Tuesday in an email to FierceHealthIT.
Samuels (pictured) replaces Leon Rodriguez (http://www.fiercehealthit.com/story/ocr-chief-leaves-permanent-hipaa-auditing-program-ramps/2014-01-02) , who was confirmed as director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, a unit of the Department of Homeland Security. He had held the top OCR post since 2011.
