* We studied the in vitro development of memory-like CD4+T cells. * We characterized the phenotypic and functional qualities of memory T cells. * We demonstrate that IL-4 and IL-7 promote proliferation in the absence of T cell receptor stimulation. * We describe a potential system for CD4 memory T cell expansion for vaccines.
