Abstract

Moneron Island is located in the Sea of Japan in the area where it joins the Tatar Strait 43 km west of the southern extremity of Sakhalin Island. The island in question is composed of Eocene, Oligocene, Miocene, and Pliocene volcano sedimentary, volcanic, and pyroclastic rocks intruded by dikes, necks, and stocks. The purpose of this communication is to specify the geodynamic settings of the formation of igneous rocks, which constitute the above water part of Moneron Island and were recovered by the Moneron borehole, using the proposed petrochemical approach.
