The Kimpton® Hotels and Restaurant's commit- ment to a su stainably minded guest experience doesn't just include an in-room yoga mat and organic snacks and beverages. In fact, elements of the Kimpton EarthCare program, including more than 100 envi- ronmental practices and products implemented at all Kimpton hotels and restaurants in the U.S., have been in place since as early as the company's inception in 1981.
Among a m yriad of practices to reduce waste, minimize toxins, and conserve resources across all business functions, Kimpton maintains its own set of EarthCare green building guidelines, includ- ing employing energy-efficient lighting and HVAC systems. Addi- tionally committed to maintaining substantive, meaningful goals for energy reduction, the company has also examined ways in which to elevate energy efficiency across its historic building properties.
This was recently reflected in the company's transformation of the Hotel Palomar Philadelphia, which, while maintaining its striking architectural charm, had become antiquated in its mechanical opera- tions and overall energy efficiency. The 156,650-square-foot, 25-floor Art Deco hotel was originally con- structed in 1929 and housed an architect's office, thus earning it the title of "Architect's Building."
