Abstract

This paper deals with the beginnings of the Order of Nights Templar, from the influence on the its formation of St. Bernard of Clairvoix, to the medieval chroniclers attitude about this Christian knights. Also, it makes an analysis of the canons that governed the life of the Templars over time. The general attitude of contemporaries in regard to the abolition of the order was one of hostility towards the knights because of their wealth and arrogance. The violation of their own rules of poverty and humbleness, among others, and the loss of the Holy Land has made the posterity to be pretty rough with this monastic-knightly order.
