Three patients, two male and a female developed psychosis following treatment with methylphenidate or amfetamine mixed salts [routes not stated for all].
A boy [ age of onset not stated ] was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactive disorder [ADHD] with dyslexia in grade I for which he was started on methylphenidate [Concerta] at a dose of 27 mg daily [route not stated]. The boy had better attention and focus on medication and his dyslexia improved. In summers the dose was increased to 36 mg due to decrease in concentration. A year later when he was off the medication the boy developed severe anxiety and was almost paranoid. Subsequently methylphenidate was restarted at 36 mg daily. Two months later the boy claimed to "see things" that he could not describe with precision: "green blobs" in his peripheral visual fields that seemed to follow him, visible by day or by night, with no auditory component or menace....
