Randolph Sanders published the first edition of this work back in 1997; it quickly became a staple to prepare students and help practitioners deal with the complex world of Christian counseling ethics. Without having fully read the first edition it seems as if it may have been geared somewhat toward students who were preparing to be Pastoral Counselors. The second edition appears more clinical in nature (there is even a slight title change) making it more appealing for students (pastoral as well mental health) along with practitioners, instructors and researchers within the field of Christian Mental Health.
In comparing the two editions some other changes are evident. Chapter material that was either deleted or assumed within other chapters include: Christian Responses to the Unethical Healer, Deprogramming, Forensic Psychology and Christian Codes: Are they Better? Chapters that have been added include: Nonsexual Multiple Relationships, Addressing Spiritual and Value Issues in Therapy, Ethical Concerns in Culturally Sensitive Practice, Ethics in Member Care, Ethics in Providing Psychological First Aid expanded sections for dealing with clients who are in the Military, Government or part of a University Counseling Center.
