Zapp has been building up its payments ecosystem as part of its plan to launch a mobile payments service in the UK next year, observes Eden Zoeller, principal analyst at Ovum. Zapp has so far lined up big name UK retailers such as Asda and Sainsbury's, as well as online retailer Shop Direct. "For mobile proximity payments to be successful, widespread merchant acceptance is critical--until this is in place consumer uptake and usage of mobile proximity payments will remain low," writes Zoeller.
