Hargreaves tanker unit snapped up by rival
Widnes-based Suttons Group said it will continue to look for opportunities even after it acquired Imperial Tankers, the bulk chemical transport arm of Hargreaves, for £26.9m earlier this month.
Suttons now has a single bulk tanker fleet of700 units, with Imperial adding 200 trucks and 350 tanker trailers to Suttons' fleet, and a combined turnover of approximately £114m from UK operations. Hargreaves had originally purchased the tanker firm - which traces its lineage back to a management buyout of ICI's former tanker operations in 1989 - in 2007 for £6.3m. Two years later it added Stockton-on-Tees firm Stiller Tankers to the business.
