JOHNNY LEE has had a string of hit songs. His recording of "Looking for Love" topped the charts for three weeks. Other Johnny Lee Songs are "Cherokee Fiddle," "Hey Bartender," "Ramblin' Rose," and "Red Sails in the Sunset." He has been singing since he was in high school. He grew up on a dairy farm near Houston.
"I'd get out on a horse and herd cattle. Since I knew the words to about every song on the radio. I'd sing out loud. Of course the only ones who could hear me were my horse and the cows."
Singing outside like that probably gave him his deep and loud voice. It has served him well. In high school some guys were starting a band and were looking for a singer. That started his career and he's been singing ever since. His big break came when he met Mickey Gilley.
