Two men, aged 35 and 41 years, developed sagittal sinus thrombosis (SST) and cerebral infarction respectively, during treatment with finasteride.
A 35-year-old man started receiving oral finasteride at 1 mg/day in June 2011 for preventing baldness. Six months later, he experienced right posterior cervical pain. Few days later, he lost consciousness and developed a seizure. He was immediately rushed to a local physician. Also, a head CT revealed lesions on the right frontal lobe. Soon his pain spread posterior cervical region to the left occipital region and he was hospitalised. On admission, he was lucid despite having a headache. Laboratory findings were significant for elevated D- dimer and creatine kinase. His blood work was positive for HBs antigen and HBe antibody. CT head findings were...
