This third edition of the Dictionary of Statistics follows the second, also reviewed in these columns (RR 2007/140). Over the years, I have reviewed several dictionaries of statistics aimed at a variety of audiences. This one is aimed at students at school and university who are discovering mathematical statistics for the first time, and at those who are from other disciplines who want to use statistics and need to get round "the gobbledegook associated with computer packages" as the authors put it. The choice of topics includes some aspects of mathematics and operational research and probability. There are also short bibliographies of statisticians (both alive and dead). The e-links from the bibliographies bring up longer bibliographies...
