Abstract

This study is part of research on the influence of institutional climate on burn-out syndrome. The aim in this case is to develop and validate an instrument to measure school climate in Secondary Education. After the development and application of the instrument to a sample of 794 teachers in the Community of Madrid, reliability, content and construct validity were analyzed (the latter using Structural Equations Models with the software AMOS 7.0). The results obtained in the analysis of reliability (Cronbach's alpha = 0.947 for the totality of the instrument, 0.842, 0.923 and 0.964 for the dimensions of Teacher-Student, Teacher-College and Teacher-Superior Relationships respectively) and in the Confirmatory Factorial Analysis were highly satisfactory (CMIN/DF = 2.899, CFI = 0.904, RMSEA = 0.049, PRATIO = 0.946). The discrimination coefficient values of the final instrument items ranged between 0.29 and 0.78. Therefore, this instrument has proved to have the necessary technical characteristics to be considered a valid and trustworthy tool to measure the syndrome.
