Abstract

Commander John Irving's new book, which is an exhaustive history of the famous Royal cutter, is both timely and necessary. In these days memories are apt to fade quickly, and so lovely a vessel as was the Britannia deserves some permanent memorial. She was, as everyone will admit, the epitome of yachtsmen's dreams, and she stood for something rather intangible, though none the less precious. in their hearts.
