[Image omitted] - The Homeland Security Department would get a bump in funding under President Obama's fiscal 2016 budget proposal, which appropriates $41.2 billion, up from the estimated $38.2 billion for the current fiscal year.
Since the department's 2015 spending plan hasn't been enacted, figures for this fiscal year reflect annualized levels provided by a continuing resolution. The department is scheduled to run out of money when the continuing resolution expires on Feb. 27.
The department says it will use the additional funds in the fiscal 2016 proposal on initiatives that will help it become more efficient and effective. But the department has been under fire from a Republican-led Congress critical of the administration's immigration policies.
