2014 is seeing the growth of hybrids/convertibles which integrate both tablets and laptops into a single device. Examples include the Lenovo ThinkPad Helix and many other models with or without detachable keyboards. This combination offers consumers a multi-functional portable computer which can be transformed into a few modes for different occasions at one price.Volume sales of tablets and other portable computers continued to grow in 2013, with 25% increase. This was considered a great decline from the 3,800% growth in 2011 and 38% in 2012, when tablets more popular with the launch of Apple's iPad 2, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and many other brands. Volume growth stabilised as consumers no longer rushed to purchase tablets during their launch unlike in 2011, when people were queuing to be among the first to obtain the new tablets, or pre-order the new launches.Apple South Asia Pte Ltd continued to dominate computers, accounting for 33% retail volume share in 2012. With new launches of iPad models and mini iPad, consumers' enthusiasm over the tablet helped Apple to retain its number one position. Apart from selling at its specialist store namely Epicentre and Nübox, the tablets are also available at electronics and appliance specialists such as Challenger.Computers and peripherals is predicted to record a 5% retail volume CAGR over the forecast period.
