Retail sales of computers and peripherals increased both in current value terms (17%) and volume terms (31%) in 2013, due to the strengthening purchasing power of the population on the one hand and the rapid rise of demand for tablets that became increasingly fashionable gadgets especially among the young generation, using tablets for photo-sharing, games and reading articles. The price erosion of PCs (11% in current terms over 2013), also boosted the sales volume of the category.Computers and peripherals' retail sales saw both volume growth (21%) and current value growth (12%) in 2012. Growth is attributable to the improving macroeconomic situation of the country and the strengthening purchasing power of consumers. Overall retail growth was driven by rising consumer demand for portable computers, which saw a 45% volume sales increase.
