If you ask any design engineer what CAD modeling software they use, there is a good chance the answer will be SolidWorks. The software is currently used by more than two and a half million engineers and designers at 200,000 organizations around the world.
The concept of developing a CAD software that runs on Microsoft Windows came from the mind of one pioneering individual, Jon Hirschtick, an MIT graduate who founded the company in 1993 with the $1 million he grossed while a member of the infamous MIT Blackjack Team.
Since its inception, Hirschtick worked as CEO and then as an executive board member until his retirement in 2011. Regardless of his newly gained freedom, he didn't head to a golf course or to a deluxe Cancun resort. Instead, the CAD innovator went back to school.
