ABSTRACT: Agricultural labour means all those persons who derive a major part of their income as payment for work performed on the farms of others can be designated as agricultural workers. For a major part of the year they should work on the land of others on wages. Agricultural labour in Baipeta District, Assam faces various problems. They are not free from slavery and they are bonded also. Basically they are illiterate and unskilled. Their income is very low so as to their standard of living is also low they are basically bellow poverty line. Their social status are very low having unorganized system of agricultural laborers. Objectives: 1) To study the socio-economic conditions of agricultural labourers. 2) To know the causes of the poor economic condition of agricultural laborer in Baipeta district. Methodology:-The study is based on only secondary data and empirical study only. The topic include the problems of agricultural laborers in Barpeta district, agricultural labour position, causes of grow the agricultural workers, Government policy measures to improve the condition of agricultural laborer and suggestions to improve the condition of agricultural laborers. The study conclude that the condition of agricultural workers in Barpeta district, Assam is not so good. Central and state Government should take proper steps to improve the condition of agricultural workers.

INTRODUCTION :-
Agricultural labor can be defined as the agricultural workers those who are engaged in raising crops on payment on wages. Labor in agriculture constitutes one of the most important factors of production and they cannot be perfect substitute in the agricultural production process.
