In 2013 computers and peripherals was determined by a strong shift of consumers to mobile versions of products, tablets in particular, which particularly affected sales of desktops and peripherals. While desktops and peripherals posted strong declines, the category's overall growth exceeded 27% in retail volume terms to stand at just over three million units. In 2013, mobile devices appealed to consumers more strongly than traditional desktops, causing the latter to shrink while portable computers gained in share. The latter accounted for 89% share of retail sales volume compared to 86% in 2012. Still desktops could not be considered a decaying product since it met demand with admirers of computer games, young Ukrainians in particular, and business consumers for whom desktops appealed with more powerful characteristics. In 2012, computers was a battlefield of a number of companies with the biggest being Samsung Ukraine and Lenovo, accounting for 15% and 8% volume share respectively. The companies managed to occupy top positions in the ranking due to prioritising width of modifications, innovation and functionality of their devices combined with reasonable pricing. In the future, computers and peripherals is to be a major category in consumer electronics overall in view of the eventual "digitalisation" of society. Distance working will become increasingly popular spurring demand for laptops, tablets, desktops and printers. In addition, when consumer confidence is on the rise, penetration rates are to rise with people considering the possibility of having several devices instead of just one. Replacement cycles are also likely to reduce, especially in the long run, thus allowing the category to demonstrate positive sales dynamics in the future. Over the forecast period, computers and peripherals is predicted to record a retail volume CAGR of 2%, maintaining the review period dynamics. For more information on the "Computers and Peripherals in Ukraine" market analysis, see the latest research: Computers and Peripherals in UkraineFollow us on Twitter @CandMResearch
