Abstract

AFTER nearly three years occupied in re-building Messrs. Waring and Gillow are about to open their new establishment in Oxford-street, covering some 40,000ft. of ground. The area-- exceptionally extensive in a crowded business centre-- taken in connection with the fact that the premises are eight stories in height, will give an idea of the magnitude of the firm's headquarters. The front, partly based upon the principal façade of Hampton Court Palace, is of handsome design, and the entrance-hall, in the Colonial Adams style, is an attractive approach to the domed Georgian Rotunda (85ft. by 54ft.), which embraces four floors of the building.
