Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to determine the advance organizers in algebra learning outcomes of 7. grade mathematics textbooks in terms of their function and type. In the study used descriptive method, the research data was obtained from the mathematics textbooks used at 2014-2015 academic year. The algebra learning outcomes in the textbooks offered by MEB and ADA publishing was examined by reference the function and types of the advance organizers. The documentary review was adopted for analyzing the data. At the end of the study, the advance organizers given in the both textbooks had a function to light the relationship between concepts of the new knowledge will be learned intensively. However, the advance organizers aimed to reminder the previous knowledge associated with new knowledge was limited. The results of the examination by the types revealed that it was located comparative advance organizers as well as explanatory advance organizers in both books, also the MEB publishing had comparative advance organizers was more than ADA publishing book.
