SECRETS TO SUCCESS
Have a sense of humor; it keeps everything in perspective. We're all about hospitality and helping people enjoy themselves. Keep it vibrant-and that goes for the employees as well as the guests. Keep a sense of perspective. Humor is truth through a different optic. Why do people laugh? Because it's truth.
Have guts: Be brave enough to make decisions and do the right thing. And sometimes, that isn't easy or popular, but you have to do it if you have integrity.
Enjoy the business: As one reaches a certain point in a career, the thrill of day-to-day management has either waned or you still have it. Sadly, for some, they never seem to enjoy the actual business of taking care of the people, which essentially is our greatest asset. I think this deep enjoyment of hospitality and service is really the first and foremost secret to success.
Sometimes, history repeats itself. Eleven years ago, John Beier was the GM of the Hudson New York, part of the Morgans Hotel Group. After four years in the role, he moved on to different leadership positions at several hospitality companies, gaining valuable experience and insights into the industry. Today, Beier has come home again to the Hudson with seven more years of expertise under his belt and a stronger appreciation for what makes a hotel stay exceptional.
