Abstract

There is a large number of students in all grade levels who receive test accommodations due to having a physical, mental, or learning disability; in some cases, students with a medical issue may receive test accommodations. Test accommodations are designed to help eliminate barriers that may be caused by the students’ disability, as well as to help make them more comfortable in the test environment. This study was designed to highlight the students’ test experience when receiving test accommodations, specifically male students in middle school who receive test accommodations. Male students’ were chosen for the study due to the large number of this gender being identified in the special education program, which puts the test accommodations in place for the student based on their individual needs. This study gave students who receive test accommodations a voice to explain the testing experience from their point of view. The student responses to eight interview questions fulfilled the purpose of the study and gave some specific facts that will be helpful to the fields of psychology and special education.
