Abstract

This paper aimed to investigate the use of triangulation procedures in Brazilian scientific research in Administration. Triangulation is defined as a procedure that combines different methods of data collection, distinct populations or samples, different theoretical perspectives and different points in time to solidify its conclusions about the investigated phenomenon. There are several types of triangulation, but researchers generally follow the classification presented by Denzin (2005), which distinguished data, theory, researchers, and methodological triangulation, and was subsequently expanded and explained by different authors. In the analyses performed on articles obtained from the Scielo Brazil database a diversification in the use of the method was identified, whereby it was sometimes applied in a distorted manner, mostly confusing between data and methodological triangulation. In this sense, it was concluded that there are few studies that recognize the use of triangulation based on the different perspectives and purposes mentioned in the literature, although there has been a significant number of studies that use it as a data analysis technique based on different sources of empirical evidence.
