I interviewed Ashok Chopra for the One to One column in Publishing Today in January 2008 and I asked him how he will dene a good book. His reply was, A good book is like good sex: It should drain you emotionally and physically something you can go back to again and again. And still enjoy it!
I dont see many books on Indian publishing and Ashoks book holds your interest to the last. It makes the reader eager to know what works and what doesnt in the Indian publishing scenario and why some books last while others dont. Is there a winning formula for publishers and writers and how is the market holding up in the age of eBooks versus print books? Many such interesting viewpoints have been discussed in detail that may help Indian publishers and book sellers.
The author has been in publishing industry for four decades, starting his career as a journalist with Indian Express and moving to Vikas Publishing House as executive editor, vice president of Macmillan India, publishing director of UBS Publishers, publisher of the India Today Book Club and Books Today, as well as chief executive and publisher of HarperCollins India.
