Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the concept of leadership and the leadership behaviour expected from primary school administrators according to the classroom teachers' opinions. Within the study conducted using qualitative case study method, the data were collected from 20 classroom teachers determined by the maximum variation sampling and working in the central district of Sivas through a questionnaire developed for use in the study. The data obtained were analysed according to the analysis criteria determined prior to the research through content and descriptive analysis. According to the research findings, the word which is most commonly used by the teachers was "guidance" while defining the concept of leadership and, in terms of the distribution of the concepts used regarding the definition of leadership according to the leadership behaviour, these concepts were found to be mostly included within the ethical leadership section. The word which is most commonly used by the teachers was "justice" concerning the leadership behaviour they expect from the school administrators and in terms of the distribution of the concepts used regarding the leadership behaviour expected from the school administrators according to the leadership behaviour, these concepts were found to be mostly included within the ethical leadership section.
